Starfish Beginners (starting at 16 weeks)
Starfish Improvers (starting at 18 months)
Our Starfish classes run for 25 minutes in the pool. These classes have a maximum of 10 parents and children in a class with one instructor.
Our classes, use songs, games , guided play, and discovery learning to develop water skills and confidence.
The aim of the program is to give parents the opportunity to promote and create a safe and positive attitude towards swimming. This relaxes the child and allows them to develop their swimming while giving the parent time to create a trusting bond with the child. The program also starts to introduce the concepts of the swimmer wheel, such as floating, rotation and basic propulsion through a range of simple swimming actions.
In our beginners class, this is done through guiding the parent to introduce their child to the water. We use floats, aids, and toys with the aim of the class to promote kicking and confidence within the water.
In the improvers class, we start to transition to more teacher based learning with support from the parent in preparation for none parent swimming. This is achieved through using back floats, additional floats and toys - allowing the child to learn basic swimming on the front and back.
The program builds on the skills learned in the beginner’s class but is suitable for swimmers new to our program as well.
