By completing the STA Aquatic Tutor course, you’ll gain the qualifications to deliver STA training programs yourself. This means you could teach:
- STA Award and Certificate in Teaching Swimming
- Baby and Pre-School Aquatic Teaching
- Open Water Coaching
Once you’ve completed any probationary requirements, you could even expand your scope to include additional qualifications, such as Mermaid and Monofin, Disability, or Safety Award for Teachers, provided you meet the prerequisites.

Gaining Full Tutor Status
Upon completion of this course, and after completing any additional requirements, tutors are granted probationary status and in order to gain full tutor status must:
- Be linked with an approved training centre
- Be successfully moderated assessing your first assessment.

Prerequisites
- Be at least 19 years of age
- Hold current membership of STA
- Hold a minimum of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training qualification or acceptable equivalent
- Hold a valid aquatic teaching qualification in the chosen discipline for a minimum of 2 years (for acceptable equivalents, please contact STA):
- STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming
- Baby & Pre-School Swimming
- Open Water Swimming Coaching
- Provide evidence of at least 200 hours of teaching experience in the chosen discipline
- Hold the Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults online learning certificate or acceptable equivalent
