Here at Neptune Aquatics we know that the first time you bring your little one swimming is an exciting time. It's tempting to bring everything but the kitchen sink, so here's a list of the essentials to make sure that first trip to the pool goes swimmingly!
Don't forget the obvious.....
Towels
Bring towels for everyone, or you might want to bring a fluffy bathrobe to keep your baby extra toasty. A couple of extra towels can be useful to lie you baby on to change, or cover them in if they're feeling chilly after their first swim. We have changing mats at the pool, but you might like to bring your own travel-changing mat.
Swim-suits
Because our water at the Hydrotherapy Pools is lovely and warm your baby will only need a regular swimming costume or trunks. You could invest in a baby wetsuit, but this isn't essential. Don't forget your own swimsuit, you might want to pop this on under your clothes so you can get into the water more quickly when you arrive at the pool.
Nappies
Here at Neptune we ask that all babies and toddlers who aren't compeltely toilet trained wear a protective nappy. This could be a disposable nappy, or a neoprene nappy. If you're using disposable nappies it's a good idea to bring a couple in case there's an accicent before you get into the water. Don't worry if you forget we do sell spares at our pools. If you choose to use a neoprene nappy you can use it on its own, or use a nappy liner for that extra security and ease of cleaning. Don't forget to bring spare regular nappies and wipes for after your swim.
Little ones are often hungry after their swim....
If your baby is weaned you might like to bring some snacks for afterwards, if you're still bottle feeding then don't forget to bring their regular bottle. Our pools are breastfeeding friendly, so if you need to feed your baby when you're with us you're welcome to do so.
Wrap up warm
If you swimming in the winter don't forget to bring warm clothes for your little one for after their swim, including a nice warm hat!
Capture that 'first splash' moment!
We don't usually allow photography at our sites, but we understand that parents want to capture the special moment of your baby's first swim. If you contact the pool beforehand and have a chat with our team we'll find a private space for you to take some pictures of you and you little one.
Our under 5's sessions are created specially for little ones to enjoy the water without the noise from the bigger children. With fun music and sensory lighting they're perfect for your baby's first swim.
